How do I clean the ultrasonic plate of my humidifier?

If your humidifier is scaled, we simply recommend using white vinegar and water. Dilute the vinegar in 50% to 60% water, leave for 10 to 20 minutes and rinse. Be careful not to rinse with too much water, as this could introduce water into the electronic part (which would damage your device). You can also use specialized products, such as Cleaner&Descaler from Stadler Form.

Why are there water drops around my ultrasonic humidifier?

With an ultrasonic humidifier, the steam is diffused into the room by means of a small fan whose air inlet is, in most cases, located under the device. It is therefore necessary to check that nothing is blocking this air inlet. For example, avoid placing the device on a carpet, rug or cloth. In addition, be sure to check the temperature of the room: if it is too cold, the steam from your humidifier will fall around the device. It is therefore necessary to move it closer to a heat source or place it a little higher. Finally, we advise you to lower the power of the steam.

Why is the steam output level low on my ultrasonic humidifier?

The air inlet, usually located under the appliance, is blocked by dust or the appliance is placed on a carpet or rug. Our advice: place the appliance on a flat, smooth surface.

Why is my device leaking?

If your humidifier is leaking, it may be because:

  • your humidifier's tank is not closed properly: the cap is not screwed on properly
  • the tank cap seal fell off when filling and there is no longer a seal
  • the tank is cracked or broken. To test this, you can fill your tank and place it on a tray. If there is water in the tray after a few minutes, it means that the tank is no longer watertight. As this part is not under warranty, to replace the tank, go to the page Spare parts.

Be careful, do not try to fill your humidifier from the top, unless it is a "top-fill" humidifier and this is specified in the instructions. Please note that it is normal for there to be a little water in the base of the tank, at the level of the ultrasonic plate.

The appliance turns on but does not release steam.

You need to check the position of the float. This is a moving part that may look like a white, hollow cylinder, located in the base of the device or under the tank. This float has a built-in magnet that indicates to your device if there is water in it. If the device does not detect water, it stops so as not to damage the ultrasonic plate. You need to check that the tank float is moving (not stuck). You can also clean this part with white vinegar.

The display shows false information about the humidity level.

The hygrometer (which indicates the humidity level) is located under the appliance or on the power cord. If the appliance is operating at high power in a small space, it is possible that the hygrometer is "flooded". It is therefore necessary to empty the appliance, turn it over, locate the hygrometer and run a hair dryer over the small grid.

My evaporator is not releasing steam, is this normal?

This is completely normal because your humidifier is an evaporator, it is not an ultrasonic or a mist maker. It works naturally by evaporating water. This does not affect its efficiency.

Why doesn't the humidity level rise above 45 or 50% relative humidity?

Your humidifier is an evaporator and works naturally. An evaporator cannot go above 45% or 50% humidity, as this is the recommended optimal rate. To go above this, you must choose an ultrasonic or warm mist humidifier.

My humidifier is on but the humidity level is not increasing. What's going on?

First, you need to check that the hygrostat is set to maximum or in continuous mode. The humidity level in a room can take time to rise, this will depend on the coverings, the furniture, its temperature and its geographical location. For example, the most extreme case would be a chalet in the mountains (at altitude) with underfloor or stove heating. In this case, you can fill your humidifier once or twice a day and not see any change in the humidity level.

However, this water is going somewhere: it is the materials that make up the room that use this water. Indeed, for a wooden chalet, it is first of all the wood that absorbs what it needs. It can take up to 15 days to see the level of the room rise.

Should I leave my humidifier on during the day?

If your humidifier has a built-in hygrostat or a HygroSmart function, you can leave it on all day long. In fact, the hygrostat will allow the humidifier to go into standby mode as soon as the target humidity level is reached. In this way, if your room is sufficiently humid, the device will not add humidity to the ambient air. On the other hand, to avoid unpleasant surprises, we advise you not to leave your device running all day in Continuous mode or if it does not have a built-in hygrostat.

How often should I change the filters in my evaporative humidifier?

Cleaning and replacing your filters is essential to ensure the proper functioning of your humidifier. There is no strict indication on this subject because everything depends on the type of room, humidity and temperature. On average, a filter should be changed every 2 to 3 months to prevent the proliferation of algae, bacteria and viruses, as well as their diffusion into the ambient air.

What is the white deposit (white dust) on the side of my ultrasonic humidifier?

The appearance of a white deposit around your appliance is due to limescale in the water. The ultrasonic plate breaks up the water molecules and diffuses them into the air, and therefore the limescale as well. The filter only retains part of it if the water is very hard. It is therefore normal to see white dust around the appliance.

This also means that the anti-limescale cartridge is no longer effective and must be replaced. To replace it correctly, make sure you have soaked the new cartridge in cold tap water for 24 hours.

Sometimes, even with an anti-scale cartridge, this white dust can still appear. This is the case for particularly hard water. In this case, use mineral or distilled water. Remember to maintain your device by cleaning the ultrasonic plate regularly, with vinegar for example. Otherwise, hard water will clog your humidifier more quickly.

Why won't my humidifier turn back on after refilling the tank?

This is a normal safety feature on this type of appliance. After replacing the tank, simply press the ON/OFF button. The appliance will resume operation automatically.

What water should I put in a humidifier?
  • Cold steam: tap water, mineral water and distilled water are suitable. If your water is hard, a white deposit will form around the device. This is the limescale in the water breaking into tiny particles and falling back down next to the device. There is no risk to your health, however, you must ensure that you clean your humidifier well so that it does not scale up. It is also possible to use a mixture of tap water and mineral water. To reduce this white dust, it is advisable to regularly replace the humidifier's filter cartridge.

  • Warm steam: tap water, mineral water and distilled water are suitable. Just like hot steam humidifiers, water from a softener is strongly discouraged.

  • Hot steam: tap water is suitable, but softened water from a descaling system using salt should be excluded. The boiling point of the water will be transformed, causing an overflow and then a deformation of the humidifier.

  • Evaporator: any type of water. Ideal if the water is very hard. The hard water will remain at the bottom of the tank and can simply be cleaned with a suitable product (white vinegar for example).

Can I use water from water softeners with my ultrasonic humidifier (cool mist)?

We recommend using mineral water or distilled water, or even demineralized water.

Can I use water from water softeners with my hybrid or warm mist humidifier?

We recommend using mineral water or distilled water, or even demineralized water. Do not use water from a water softener with salt. The salt from the softener will cause the appliance to deform. It is better to use distilled or osmosis-treated water and to remove the anti-scale cartridge.

Can I use water from water softeners with my evaporative humidifier?

Yes, with this type of humidifier you can use any type of water.

How to diffuse essential oils with a humidifier?

Some humidifiers can diffuse essential oils. There are two ways to do this:

  • Add the oils directly into the water, at the bottom of the tank: the device must have a polypropylene base. In 99% of cases, you should not put oils directly into the water because the base of your humidifier is made of ABS plastic. The oils risk eating away at the ABS, which would cause a leak. You can put oils directly into the base of your humidifier if it is made of polypropylene. This information is usually given in the explanatory note.
  • Soak the cotton with oil and place it in the compartment provided for this purpose: a PP receptacle placed in the air flow of the fan. Diffusion is done by air. The essential oil diffuses in the air flow. In all these cases, never pour oil into the tank!
What is the "top-fill" function used for?

A humidifier is considered "top-fill" when its user manual indicates that you can fill it from the top. This way, you don't have to remove and carry the tank to fill it: a bottle of water is enough and this greatly simplifies the daily use of the humidifier. In the case of a "top-fill" humidifier, the tank is shaped like a bucket with a handle.

How do I maintain my humidifier?

Frequent use of a humidifier requires regular and careful maintenance, at least once a week if you use it very often.

To clean it, use white vinegar: in addition to being economical, it is the ideal product for eliminating limescale. There are also specific maintenance products, such as the Stadler Form cleaner and descaler Cleaner&Descaler which effectively preserves materials.

We recommend filling the tank with vinegar and water, then leaving it to act for 30 minutes before rinsing it. Just be sure to unplug it first and not wet the electronic components so as not to damage them and put yourself in danger.

In the case of an ultrasonic humidifier, clean the metal plate with a soft brush.

Finally, do not let water stagnate for more than 72 hours in the device to avoid any proliferation of bacteria.

Can I turn off the LEDs on my humidifier at night?

Control panels or indicator lights are sometimes sources of light that can disturb your sleep. Some humidifiers are equipped with a light regulator (also called a "dimmer") that allows you to reduce the intensity of the light emitted by your humidifier, or to turn it off.

On some humidifiers, the LED present cannot be deactivated. Cover this stray light with a piece of aluminum foil, this does not prevent the operation of the device at all.

The device no longer starts

If the filter is too worn, the device may no longer start. After changing the filter, you must reset the device to indicate that the filter is new. To do this, refer to the instructions for your humidifier (you must press a button for a few seconds).
