Air humidification has one main objective: to increase the level of humidity in the ambient air in order to improve the quality of the air breathed in and to protect health.
For example, infants, children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems are all sensitive to air quality.
Using a humidifier can help you to :
- sleep better
- limit the circulation of viruses and bacteria in the air,
- reduce feelings of dry skin or dry mucous membranes, constant thirst, sore throat, etc,
- reduce the amount of dust
- avoid static electricity.
If the air in your home is too dry, this may be due to a number of factors, including :
- winter temperatures
- poor ventilation in your home
- intensive or inappropriate heating,
the fact that wooden furniture and objects absorb the little moisture naturally present in the air.
Although this drying out is not visible, it can have very harmful effects on health, objects and materials:
- Coughing, rhinitis, inflammation and irritation of the respiratory tract
- Headaches
- Night-time thirst
- Nosebleeds
- Instruments out of tune
- Damage to furniture and works of art (cracks)
- creaking wooden floors
TARGET :
47 to 53 %
relative humidity
at home or in the office
To choose the right humidifier for your needs, there are a number of points to consider :
It can be measured using a hygrometer. When the air is too dry, the humidity level is between 20 and 40%. A room with a humidity level of between 45% and 55% is considered comfortable to live in. The drier the indoor air, the more powerful the appliance you should choose.
A bedroom and a living room do not necessarily require the same type of humidifier. For a bedroom, a silent humidifier without LEDs is more suitable. On the other hand, for a child's bedroom, a device with an integrated nightlight and automatic shut-off when the tank is empty may be useful.
The larger your room, the greater the humidification capacity and the larger the tank. If you choose a humidifier with a tank that's too small, you'll have to keep refilling it. For a room of around 50 m², we recommend a humidifier with a tank of at least 5 litres.
This information will determine the power and capacity of the humidifier required. Generally speaking, the recommended surface area is indicated in the product specifications.
The objects and furniture that make up or decorate the room are all factors to be taken into account when choosing your humidifier. In a room with a lot of rough wood - parquet, beams - the ambient humidity level will take longer to rise.
The main thing to consider is the nature of your heating system. Using cast-iron or auxiliary radiators will dry out the air less than underfloor heating or a wood-burning stove, which are two particularly drying ways of heating a home.
This natural technique relies on the presence of an absorbent filter made of plant fibers, placed directly in the device's reservoir. The filter absorbs water through capillary action, and a fan blows air through it. In this way, the dry air in the room is transformed into humid air, invisible to the naked eye.
+ Simple to use
+ Healthy, filtered diffusion
+ Low energy consumption
- Filter needs to be changed every 3 to 6 months
- Difficult to exceed 50% humidity level
Water flows over a vibrating metal plate, known as an ultrasonic plate. These vibrations break the water molecules into fine droplets. As a result, water vapor is produced in the form of a cool mist. This mist is then dispersed into the room by a small fan.
+ Humidity level rises quickly
+ High performance
+ Easy to use
+ Low energy consumption
- Can project limescale
This humidifier works like a cool mist humidifier, but with the addition of a heating plate. Slightly heating the water, usually up to 40°C, allows for better diffusion of moisture into the air.
+ Effective for increasing humidity in rooms with very low initial humidity
+ Efficient in very large spaces
+ Improved respiratory comfort
- Can project limescale
This type of device works like a kettle. Thanks to a heating plate, the water is brought to a boil and exits the humidifier in the form of steam. This technology is ideal if there are concerns about the quality of the water in the reservoir. Heating the water to 100°C eliminates 100% of the bacteria and germs present in the water, ensuring the diffusion of clean, healthy steam.
+ Easy to use
+ High performance
+ Hygienic
- Dangerous for young children
- Energy-consuming
Depending on its placement, your humidifier may seem more or less effective. If the room you wish to humidify is large, we recommend placing your humidifier as centrally as possible to optimize water diffusion. Depending on the size of the device, you can place it directly on the floor, on a coffee table, a shelf, or a sideboard. Be sure to leave at least 40 cm of space around the unit. In a child’s room, consider placing the humidifier at a height to prevent it from being knocked over.
If you use your humidifier frequently, make sure to clean it once a week to prevent stagnant water, algae, and deposits from forming. For this, use white vinegar. In addition to being an economical solution, it's the ideal product to remove limescale! Fill the reservoir with a mixture of white vinegar and water. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse with clear water. Clean the ultrasonic plate with a soft cloth, but never scrape it! Be sure to unplug the device before handling it!
There are also specific cleaning products available, such as Cleaner & Descaler, which effectively protect the materials.
