Is your ROHAN dehumidifier leaking from the bottom without using the drain pump? Discover the possible causes of condensation and how to reduce leaks.

If water leaks from the base of the appliance despite there being no issue with the drain hose or pump, the cause is generally external condensation on the internal surfaces, related to the physical principle of the dew point.

  • How does this happen? This phenomenon occurs when the appliance is placed in a cool, very humid room, such as a cellar, basement, unheated laundry room, or a room during the transitional seasons. The internal components and plastic walls of the appliance cool down significantly when exposed to the refrigeration circuit or treated air. When humid ambient air enters the appliance and comes into contact with these cold surfaces, a sudden temperature change occurs: the air cools rapidly, reaches its saturation point, and moisture immediately condenses into droplets on the internal plastic surfaces. If the amount of condensation exceeds the capacity of the internal baffles or designated collection areas, water escapes from the bottom of the appliance.

  • Under what conditions does this happen? Contrary to popular belief, this phenomenon does not occur in warm rooms, but rather in cold, highly humid environments (typically between 10°C and 15°C). Under these conditions, the appliance's materials remain at or below the dew point of the surrounding air, encouraging water to accumulate on the internal surfaces instead of draining normally into the collection tank or drainage system.

  • What should I do? If you use your dehumidifier in a very cool room, try to maintain a minimum room temperature to reduce the temperature difference.
