Threshold of Sensitization and Alert Threshold
The threshold of sensitization of a pollutant is the concentration and duration limit that the body can tolerate before reacting. Exceeding this threshold may trigger symptoms, such as an asthma attack in those sensitive to dust or pollen.
In contrast, the alert threshold represents the concentration level of pollutants beyond which prolonged exposure poses a significant risk to both health and the environment.
The sensitivity threshold concept can also apply to other fields, such as the lowest light intensity detectable by the human eye at a given wavelength.
