Microparticle

A microparticle is a tiny particle ranging in size from 0.1 to 100 μm.

There are two types of microparticles:

  • Natural microparticles: These result from natural processes such as volcanic eruptions, soil erosion, or come from living organisms like flower pollen, mushroom spores, etc.
  • Anthropogenic microparticles: These are the ones from human activity, typically from industry, road traffic, construction sites, chimney smoke, etc.

Measuring microparticles is essential for assessing air quality. It involves different criteria:

  • Mass: Defines the size of the microparticles,
  • Number: Defines their concentration,
  • Shape: Affects their behavior in the air.

Using an air quality monitor helps identify the number and type of microparticles present in your indoor air. If your indoor air is highly polluted, using an air purifier can capture these microparticles and improve air quality.
