STADLER FORM ROGER AIR PURIFIERS Effective Against Coronaviruses
ROGER and ROGER Little eliminate 99.3% of all coronaviruses, while ROGER Big eliminates up to 99.9%.
What do the terms "coronavirus," "SARS-CoV-2," and "COVID-19" mean?
It’s important to distinguish between these three terms and use them correctly. The official name for the virus is "SARS-CoV-2," which stands for "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2." The virus is a strain from the coronavirus family. The term "COVID-19" refers to the disease caused by the virus: "CO" stands for "corona," "VI" for "virus," and "D" for "disease."
On this page, SARS-CoV-2 will be referred to as "coronavirus."
Coronavirus Infection Through Airborne Particles
In many cases, people can become infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus through airborne transmission, both via droplets and aerosolized virus particles. Viral particles are released into the air when speaking, sneezing, and even when breathing naturally. These particles move through the air and can also settle on surfaces over time. If the airborne virus is inhaled by others nearby, they may become infected.
The viral load in the air is particularly high in closed and/or poorly ventilated spaces. Regular and frequent ventilation can reduce the viral concentration for a short period. However, this measure should not be the only one used to reduce coronaviruses indoors, as it is not particularly effective. Along with other well-known infection prevention measures, such as limiting social contact, practicing social distancing, wearing a medical mask, and washing hands regularly, an air purifier can also enhance protection. A powerful air purifier can help slow the spread of the coronavirus by removing the virus from the air, thereby reducing its concentration and, with it, the risk of infection.
ROGER Air Purifiers Tested on Coronavirus
Stadler Form had its three new ROGER air purifiers tested by the independent Airmid laboratory in the UK to ensure their effectiveness against the coronavirus. For the test, the air purifiers were placed in test chambers with a volume of 28.5 m³. The devices were turned on and operated for 60 minutes, during which the viral load in the air was measured before and after the test. After one hour, it was found that ROGER Little and ROGER had reduced the viral load in the chamber by 99.3%. ROGER Big — the air purifier designed for offices and large spaces up to 104 m² — achieved an impressive air purification performance of 99.9%. Stadler Form is therefore one of the first manufacturers of home-use air purifiers to prove the effectiveness of its devices against the coronavirus.
ROGER Big Reduces MS2 Virus Concentration
The MS2 virus used in the test is an RNA virus like SARS-CoV-2. Due to its aerosol properties, which are similar to those of human viruses, as well as its viability and resistance to disinfection, the MS2 virus is commonly used in air purification tests as a substitute for viruses of similar size[1]. The results show that the ROGER Big air purifier reduces the concentration of MS2 viruses, which are smaller in size. It can therefore be concluded that ROGER Big is also effective on the larger SARS-CoV-2 virus.
To ensure safety & well-being, both at home and at the office, the HealthProtect™ air purifiers are equipped with GermShield™ technology.
Air Purifiers as an Additional Protection Against COVID-19
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), "when used properly, air purifiers can help reduce pollutants in the air inside residential buildings or enclosed spaces, including viruses"[2]. An air purifier like ROGER can help reduce the risk of viral infections and thus offer additional protection against the coronavirus. In stores, restaurants, hair salons, and even schools and daycare centers, a ROGER air purifier can also provide children and employees with a healthier air experience.
[1] With a diameter of about 25 nm, the MS2 virus is more than 4 times smaller than the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which has a diameter of 120 nm.
